SNOWDEN INTERVIEW/SHOW PREVIEW

Next month Atlanta’s experimental rock outfit Snowden will be in the UK for a string of dates with fellow US rockers Kings Of Leon. If you have not yet heard Snowden’s debut album Anti Anti then do yourself a favour and check this record out. Released last year on Jade Tree records, Anti Anti is an excellent mix of atmospheric melodies under layers of reverb-heavy distortion. Snowden have been compared to bands such as Interpol, Ride, New Order and early Cure and have been quickly gaining new fans in the UK including Radio 1’s Steve Lamacq.

Snowden’s Jordan Jeffares took time out to answer a few questions for us leading up to this tour.

Beatrwtz.com – How has the touring been going over in the US?

Jordan – It has been great. We’ve toured the US many times but we’ve never played for this many people before. KoL are a riot to tour with. They have afterparties every night so it’s not the usual pack up and go back the hotel routine.

Beatrwtz.com – Have you guys been over to the UK before and what are you looking forward to over here?

Jordan – We did two weeks in the UK last November and played for a total of about 300 people the entire trip. For all intents and purposes this will be our first time really taking a crack at reaching people in the UK.

Beatrwtz.com – Did you know Snowden is home to the largest mountain here in Wales but where did you get the name from?

Jordan – The name comes from a character in Joseph Heller’s WWII satire ‘Catch 22′. It’s a huge scene in the book where Snowden is killed and his death reveals something about life to the protagonist.

Beatrwtz.com – Jade Tree releases quite a wide range of bands. What musical influences/backgrounds do you guys have and is there any bands new bands we should look out for?

Jordan – I’m influenced by lots of music that is very different from each other: The Cure, Radiohead, Broken Social Scene, CSN, The Zombies. I think England needs to wake up and realize that they are overlooking one of the greatest bands of our generation. They’re an English band called The Clientele.

Beatrwtz.com – Are you listening to any bands from the UK at the moment?

Jordan – The Clientele. I listen to them almost everyday. We also love Broadcast
