Seattle’s Panda & Angel have that soft, squishy kind of name that denotes a fey, twee kind of indie rock. Opening track "Mexico" starts off in that vein, but after lulling the ear for two minutes, the track suddenly turns and smacks you across the face with crashing guitars and pummeling cymbals. The rest of the EP takes a similar approach — stroking the ear and then biting it. The vocals of Carrie Murphy (Touchdown Eagles) underpin the whole affair. Her quiet yet authoritative voice is reminiscent of Cat Power’s Chan Marshall. This EP is a beautiful, powerful sample that will have you reaching for the repeat button on the stereo.
