Jade Tree is proud to announce the addition of two new bands to its expansive roster: Seattle, Washington’s PANDA & ANGEL, as well as Atlanta, Georgia’s SNOWDEN. Jade Tree plans to release a CD EP from PANDA & ANGEL by mid-summer, in addition to a full-length album from SNOWDEN by late summer.

PANDA & ANGEL is a relatively new collaboration between Carrie Murphy (Touchdown Eagle) and Josh Wackerly (S). The duo began writing songs in the fall of 2004, and were soon joined by Laura Enderle (bass), Kara Kikuchi (keyboards), and Zaun Zehner (drums). PANDA & ANGEL began playing out in late 2004, and have since performed alongside Wolf Parade, Band of Horses, The Elected, Crystal Skulls and Maria Taylor to name a few. Taking their name from a junkie biker couple Wackerly used to know in his hometown of Mansfield, Ohio, PANDA & ANGEL’s music has been described as haunting and sparse, punctuated by moments of furious distortion. Imagine Cat Power’s reticence interspersed between My Bloody Valentine’s atmosphere and PJ Harvey’s brutal honesty; now you’ve got an idea of what to expect from PANDA & ANGEL. The band’s dedicated Seattle following has catapulted them from opening act to headliners in just six months, and they’ve recently completed a short West Coast tour in mid-February.

PANDA & ANGEL’s self-titled 6-song debut CD EP was recorded at Avast! (The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney) in Seattle, with plans for a mid-summer release.

SNOWDEN is the product of Jordan Jeffares, the band’s founding member and principal songwriter. Jeffares began home recording SNOWDEN’s music in Athens at the end of college and postponed grad school to build a band in Atlanta. He quickly found like-minded musicians eager to bring the bedroom demos to life and within months of forming SNOWDEN was on the tip of tongues all over town and playing some of Atlanta’s best venues.

Taking reference from the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, SNOWDEN has shared stages with The Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Xiu Xiu, Elefant and The Unicorns to name a few. SNOWDEN’s sound is well described as a cross between the rhythmic grit of The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and the melodic layers of The Cure. SNOWDEN blends reverb saturated guitars and keyboards for a lush sound and lyrics struggling to look outward despite that we’re always looking in.

From the beginning SNOWDEN’s tireless DIY ethic has paid off. Their self-recorded and released E.P. was charted in Top 30 lists of most stations that added it to rotation. Blogs such as Stereogum, Coolfer, Gothamist, and countless others all were incredibly supportive as the band made its initial impressions. The long drives to and from New York for shows became so routine that many people mistook the band as natives of Manhattan. Now, with the completion of the debut album behind them, SNOWDEN is gearing up for an ambitious touring schedule to augment their ever-growing support base.

SNOWDEN’s debut album, Anti-Anti, is a mix of tracks recorded by Erik Wofford (Explosions in the Sky, My Morning Jacket) at Cacophony Recorders in Austin, and others recorded and mixed by Jeffares himself. The band will also be joining David Bazan, Ester Drang, Micah P. Hinson, Paint It Black and New Mexican Disaster Squad on March 18 for the Jade Tree Showcase at this year’s South By Southwest Festival in Austin, TX.
