After 13 years with Mordam, we have switched our distribution to Chicago’s Touch and Go.
Mordam was one of the first distributors of its kind, run as a collective label group versus a more traditional sales center. Founded in 1983 by Ruth Schwartz with the idea of offering both competitive and competent CD distribution without price gouging or ridiculous shipping goals; Mordam gave indie-labels like ourselves, Lookout, and Sympathy for the Record Industry the ability to develop their rosters and grow organically – in January of 2005 Ruth sold Mordam to the Lumberjack group.
Touch and Go came into prominence in the early and mid-nineties bringing such luminaries as The Jesus Lizard and Slint to the masses; known more recently for acts such as TV On The Radio, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Pinback. In 1990, Touch and Go began to provide manufacturing and distribution services for other independent labels who shared similar ideals. The label has taken to distributing an armful of influential labels including Suicide Squeeze, Kill Rock Stars, and Merge.
We are long-time fans of Touch and Go and proud to be part of their family, keep your eyes and ears open as 2006 promises to be our biggest year to date.
Oh man. The rock is about to be in full force all over the globe by the time we finish writing these words to you. While LORDS wrap up their tour in support of the brand new sonic maelstrom that is Swords (JT1107), four more of Jade Tree’s finest are about to take it to the streets.
