Our friends over at PETA have just released a new 3-minute informational video about current farming conditions and animal treatment. Entitled Chew On This, the video contains some really interesting information and is designed to shed light on animal suffering while highlighting the many reasons to choose a compassionate, plant-based diet.
For those of you that are interested you can read more or link directly to the video .
CHALLENGER’S debut, LP/CD (JT1092) hits stores today. Featuring MILEMARKER’S creative backbone of Al Burian and Dave Laney, GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT IN LETHAL DOSES builds upon MILEMARKER’S crushing intensity, yet extends itself in a wholly different direction. The record was produced in session with A.J. Mogis (The Faint, Cursive) at Presto Studios in Omaha, Nebraska. Reminiscent of the abrasive and pummeling energy of bands such as Husker Du and Sonic Youth, CHALLENGER songs are non-stop, scratchy, fuzzed out affairs of speed driven post-punk. Fueled as much by the personal, as the political GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT IN LETHAL DOSES finds Laney and Burian devastatingly pitch perfect as they carve out an artful and urgent niche into the increasingly blasé punk underground.
Sadly, Laney (a Chicago bike messenger by day) was recently the victim of a hit and run and the bands touring plans had to be canceled so Dave could receive surgery. He is recovering nicely and plans are being made for future rock n’ roll debauchery as we speak. So pick the record up and keep your eyes peeled as CHALLENGER’S plans to storm the country promise to be nothing, if not totally bombastic.

Our ears are still bleeding from standing to close to the stage at their last gig and now FROM ASHES RISE, who just got off tour in support of NIGHTMARES LP/CD (JT1088), have plans to head right back out again. Come this March FROM ASHES RISE will be blasting up the left coast with seminal crust-punk legends Subhumans (UK), who have recently reunited and are dropping a live record as part of “Live In A Dive” series.
FROM ASHES RISE and Subhumans could easily be the best show of the year, but while you’re sitting on your hands waiting for March to roll around you can always scope the links below to see what people are saying about NIGHTMARES.
Please consult the From Ashes Rise for current dates.
PAINT IT BLACK, who released the blistering CVA LP/CD (JT1080) this past July, have been spending their weekends thrashing the north-east basement circuit with their singular brand of no frills, hammer-fisted hardcore. In addition to their non-stop touring the band has written an armful of new songs and added a permanent second guitarist to the mix. We at Jade Tree want to take a moment to welcome CPM (AKA 1984), of Go For The Throat/None More Black fame, to the fold. After joining the band regionally on and off for the past year Dan Yemin and crew finally decided, “we’d be depriving the scene were we not to have him with us all the time.”
Don’t believe us? Check it out yourself; just don’t say we didn’t warn you.
