CEX, whose Jade Tree debut Maryland Mansions (JT1090) is out now, visited the Jade Tree offices yesterday in order to attend an early showing of the “Return of the King” at the local Cineplex with the Jade Tree office. Moviegoers at the 11:00 showing were treated to CEX’S noisy and barely coherent commentary mocking Frodo and uproarious laughter every time someone spoke elvish (all this from a guy that actually plays Magic: The Gathering). CEX and Jade Tree co-owner Tim Owen also raced to see who could eat the most popcorn during the movie, with Tim Owen promptly trouncing CEX’S half tub to his own one and a half tubs of buttery blubber.
CHALLENGER’S debut, Give People What They Want In Lethal Doses LP/CD (JT1092) is now available for pre-order (Released February 17, 2004). In case you forgot, CHALLENGER is your new favorite band that features the backbone of MILEMARKER, Al Burian and Dave Laney. With their east coast punk roots and aggro rants, CHALLENGER is poised to be a dominate force in 2004.
PEDRO THE LION is currently snuggled deep in the studio recording material for a tentative spring 2004 release. No word yet on what exactly this release will be, but Dave Bazan has promised that he has handfuls of new songs written, indicating that a new full-length might be on the way. More updates on the progress of the recording as they become available.
FROM ASHES RISE Nightmares LP/CD (JT1088) is a massive assault of the senses that is both pleasing old fans while continuing to garner the band tons of new fans and praise from reviewers as well. Please read below to see what the critically impaired have been writing about Nightmares.

Jonah Matranga has completed working on ONELINEDRAWING’S follow-up to 2002′s critically acclaimed Visitor. The Volunteers LP/CD (JT1093), which is slated to be released on March 16, 2004 (Available for pre-order January 20, 2004), was made spontaneously in many different places, ranging from the smallest bedrooms to full-bore studios, all of which contributes to the immediacy and diversity of the performances, with Jonah’s voice more direct and dynamic than it has ever been and bridging the gap between Jonah’s roots and his eclectic songwriting. The disc also includes an enhanced portion that contains demo versions of the album tracks with additional liner notes written by Jonah.
And the packaging for The Volunteers is just as special as the music within. With liner notes written by Geoff Rickly of Thursday and cover art reminiscent of an antique book, The Volunteers is simply one of the coolest packages that Jade Tree has ever had the pleasure of releasing.
